Serging and Mario Kart Racing

I serge the ends of the flannel baby blankets. The serger goes fast and at almost full speed I feel like Princess Peach in a Mario Kart race.  The machine is bouncing one way and I am bouncing the other.
Completion of the 30 or 33 inches feels like crossing the finish line. Its quite the wild ride.

Now that I have decided to use the serger for more garment sewing, I practice going slow while learning to feel and control the machine.

Precision Prepping and Pressing

Stabilising knits is the key preventing wonky seams. Nobody makes lightweight bias fusible knit interfacing. It takes time to rotary cut yards of the necessary fusible knit stabilizer. It also requires precision pressing to place and secure the fusible to the armholes and necklines.

Its's a Miracle!!

I rethreaded my serger using a technique I learned in class. By golly--it worked!

I knotted the new thread to the old thread. Then, I loosened the tension to zero.  I ran the thread through until the new thread was close to the eye of the needle. Then pulled the needle thread through and rethreaded the needles. I put the tension back to 4 on all the dials.

I checked the tension on stitch width of 3 and who would have believed how nice the stitches looked.
